I was born in Huntington Beach and moved up to Berkeley for school. I studied English there with a vocational fervor, graduated, and remained living in the Bay Area. The years post-graduation were a sort of blur of passing, un-semestered time, working in restaurants and feeling myself drift further from my verbal self and the lifelong assumption I'd go for a PhD in lit. I felt, like I think a lot of post-college folks do, a little lost, certainly untethered. Escaping to nature became a weekly cure for customer service work, and taking pictures with my omnipresent iPhone became the salve for writer's block and the antidote to general creative frustration. Over time, these things have become joys of my life, going out into beautiful California (and beyond) with my loved ones, quietening to be the "transparent eye-ball" behind the lens. It feels really good to be creative again, and to be coming closer to what I'd like to do. My dad, now retired, has been (in addition to magazine editor and journalism professor--have to brag on the man) a California historian, travel-writer, and memoirist, and I am finding myself drawn to some similar realms in my Future Dream Life. In the meantime, I'm plugging away at the reading and writing thing, working to learn more about the technical/science-y side of photography, taking pictures every day, and am being in beauty as often as possible, usually with my pardner-in-most-things Rama. Which really is a dream life in itself.
Anyway, this website is some of what I've done so far. I'm very open to creative opportunities of all kinds and can be reached at mollymrgrt@gmail.com. O, and I also Instagram with regularity, username mollymrgrt.
